Application Guidelines

The MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program welcomes new students in August of each academic year. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, though early application is encouraged.

The admissions committee conducts a holistic review of each application to determine a candidate's readiness to take on graduate-level work. The committee considers factors including but not limited to an applicant's undergraduate experience, personal goals statement, vieo, and work experience.

To complete and submit your application, the following application materials are required:

  • Completed online application form
  • A scanned copy of official transcripts from all universities or colleges, where degree was conferred (NOTE: Virginia Tech students do not need to submit official transcripts)
  • A copy of your resume
  • A non-refundable $75 application fee
  • Video
    • Upload a two-minute video telling us:
      • Why you have chosen to pursue the Pamplin College of Business MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics degree;
      • Your anticipated contributions as a student in the program; and
      • How this degree will further your career.
    • Please note that we encourage you to record this video with your cell phone. We do not expect this video to be highly produced.
  • Academic and professional goals statement
    • Upload a 1-2 page, double-spaced personal statement. Share why you want to pursue the MSBA-GBA degree and how it would serve your career objectives. Please include the following:
      • Why do you want to undertake graduate study?
      • Why do you expect to gain from your program of study?
      • If you have a concentration or area of interest that you would like to pursue, briefly outline your intent.
      • Describe your anticipated contributions as a student and as a global business analytics professional upon graduation.

Regular Admission
Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited university are eligible for admission to the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program as regular students with no restrictions.

Provisional Admission
Provisional admission to the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analyticsprogram is open to applicants whose GPA is below the minimum of 3.0, but is above 2.5, as required by Virginia Tech's Graduate School. The applicant must demonstrate other experience or qualifications that show the potential to undertake graduate study. 

After taking 12 credit hours in the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program and earning at least a 3.00 GPA, a student is changed to Regular status by the Graduate School.

Commonwealth Campus Admission
Prospective students may choose to apply as Commonwealth Campus students prior to being fully admitted into the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics Program. In this case, students must first meet the minimum GPA requirement to be admitted into the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program as Commonwealth Campus students and will then be enrolled in only one MSBA-GBA core course. This provides the applicant with more time to complete his/her application packet and to be considered for regular admissions status in the following semester.

Commonwealth Campus admittance into the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics Program is granted by the Program Director. The applicant must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. The Commonwealth Student status is a temporary status and students cannot register for courses in the MSBA-GBA program without the consent of the Program Director.

Students enrolled in an MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics course under the Commonwealth Campus status, who decide to pursue the MSBA-GBA on a Regular status basis, must submit a new online application to enter the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program. A non-refundable application fee is required. Please refer to the Graduate School for more information on Commonwealth Campus status.

Exemptions
No exemption of core coures is allowed.

Transfer Students
In certain cases, it is possible to transfer up to nine hours of elective courses from an AACSB-accredited institution to the MSBA-GBA Program with prior approval. Only elective courses which meet the requirements of the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program and were completed prior to admission to Virginia Tech are considered. Courses completed more than five years prior to admission are not eligible for consideration. Enrolled MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics students are required to take all their required and elective courses in the program at Virginia Tech. Students will not be permitted to take or transfer any of the MBA courses from other universities following their admission into MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program.

The MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics Program Director will review the appropriateness of all requests for transfer credit of courses completed prior to admission. This typically takes place when the student formalizes his/her application for admission and should be completed as early as possible prior to the admission decision.

Transfer credits must also follow the requirements of the Virginia Tech Graduate School. In part, this requires that the student has received at least a grade of "B" to transfer the course. An official copy of the transcript from the transfer institution should be sent to the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics Program Office.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis and early application is encouraged. The final deadline dates to submit the online application are listed below. All supporting documentation such as official transcripts must be submitted to the MSBA with a concentration in Global Business Analytics program office by the application deadlines.
